Home Clean Home - Introduction

Introduction

This blog was created to share creative solutions that were inspired by life's frustrations. One of my biggest frustrations has always been getting and keeping my house clean and organized. With three kids, it seemed that this was next to impossible to accomplish. Every time I would get a room clean the kids would come in behind me and undo what I had done.

During 2012 I decided that I was going to overcome my cleaning frustration. I began doing some research and experiments to come up with creative ways to put an end to my cleaning frustration. I think I read just about every book ever published on the subject. Although the books offered a lot of information, they just didn't seem to work for me. So I began taking all of the information that I learned and came up with a solution that worked.

Each book that I read had a common theme, time management, so I decided to start there. I created a notebook (time management tool) which held all of the information that I needed to get and keep my home (and life) clean and organized. Throughout the year my notebook evolved into what I now call my "Reminder Binder", which is an organized schedule of what needs to be done and when.

One of my personal short comings is that I tend to lose interest in things very quickly, so I like to try and live my life by the mantra: KISS - Keep It Simple Silly and to try and find the fun in everything that I do (something I learned from Mary Poppins). When I created "Home Clean Home" I kept these two things in mind.

If you are looking for a simple and fun way to get and keep your home (and life) clean and organized join me.

    1. What I love about this system is that you can work through it at your own pace. My sister started by making her bed. Once it became a habit for her she moved on. The goal is to do small things to improve the way our home looks and to not be a slave to our homes. Thanks for the comment.

  2. One of my favorite blog posts I came across a few years ago was from a young mom that set up a great notebook for running her household. She developed it on a business concept, as the manager of her home. When my kids were young and I was having a hard time getting everything done, a friend gave me a book called, "The Sidetracked Home Executive." Oh, that was just what I needed to change my bad habbits and my understanding of what it meant to be a homemaker. Now my family is almost all out of the house and I work full time. I still have to go back to these steps- decluttering, quick cleans, routines, etc. These are great habbits to lean on, and teach your kids. I think my daughter is better at it than I am! Thanks for sharing your daily challenges, too.

    1. Thank you so much for the lovely comment. I spent many years managing departments and people and I could never have been successful without my Franklin planner. I don't know why it took me so long to incorporate a planner for my home, but now that I have it, there is no way I would run my home without it.

    1. The best way to deal with those chores that we hate is to find a way to make them fun. For every job that must be done there is an element of fun, find the fun and snap the jobs a game (Mary Poppins).

  12. I stopped over from Teach Beside Me.

Very nice ideas, and a very cool resource link. I am getting better as a SAHM in organizing, but I am going to read over these tips. You are right about the attitude - I have started seeing house cleaning/keeping as an example for my children, and I have found I am less grouchy about it.
